Who is Freshsales?

Freshsales is the sales CRM from Freshworks, the Chennai-born SaaS company that went public on NASDAQ in 2021. Freshworks now serves 65,000+ businesses globally and ships a stack of products — Freshdesk (support), Freshchat (messaging), Freshcaller (telephony), Freshmarketer (campaigns) — that integrate natively with Freshsales. If you already use other Freshworks products, the data sharing is a real advantage.

The product itself is genuinely well-designed. Clean interface, polished mobile apps, mature reporting, and a set of AI features grouped under the “Freddy” brand: lead scoring, deal insights, next-best-action suggestions, and an email assistant. Freshsales Suite bundles the CRM with marketing automation — customer journeys, landing pages, web forms — for teams that want CRM and marketing in one product.

Freshsales is a horizontal CRM. It is not built for any specific vertical. Loan brokers, real estate agents, software sales teams, and consultants all use the same fields, same pipeline, same workflows. You bend it to your industry with custom fields and workflow rules — which is fine if you have an admin who enjoys doing that.

Who is TatvaCRM?

TatvaCRM is built by Tatva Fintech Private Limited, based in Pune. We launched with a deliberate thesis: most Indian SMBs do not need AI deal predictions or built-in call recording. They need a CRM that does the core jobs — pipeline, contacts, leads, tasks, dashboards — cleanly, plus first-class support for the workflows that India actually runs on. For us, that means BFSI: NBFCs, DSAs, insurance agents, mutual fund distributors.

On the Professional tier (₹999/user/month), TatvaCRM ships a real DSA toolkit: a loan-file model where each applicant can have multiple loan files routed to different lenders, commission split templates per product, document checklists that auto-instantiate based on product and employment type, and disbursal tracking with sanctioned amount cap enforcement. That is not custom-fields-and-pray. It is modelled in the schema.

What TatvaCRM does not have, today, honestly: no AI, no built-in calling, no native WhatsApp send, no SSO/SAML, no mobile app, no automation engine, no scheduled reports. We will get to some of those. But we ship what we ship — no vapourware on the pricing page.

💡TatvaCRM's Starter is per-user-no-minimum. You can pay for one seat, or fifty. Freshsales has no minimum either, but the per-user rate is roughly 2x at the entry tier and 3-4x at the Pro tier where most growing teams actually settle.

The shape is clear. Freshsales is broader and more polished in the generic CRM areas, plus it has telephony and AI we do not. TatvaCRM is sharper in BFSI/DSA and cheaper per seat, but is missing automation, AI, mobile and bulk email today.

Freshsales vs TatvaCRM AI

Freshsales' pitch leans heavily on Freddy AI. There are four things in that bundle: lead scoring, deal insights (probability of close), next-best-action prompts, and an email-drafting assistant. TatvaCRM has none of these. So the comparison is short — and the interesting question is whether you need Freddy at all.

Lead scoring AI works when it has volume. The model needs thousands of historical leads with known outcomes (won/lost) to learn what signals predict conversion. A 10-person insurance agency closing 15 policies per month does not generate enough labelled data for a scoring model to be more accurate than a hand-written rule (“under-35 + salaried + own home = hot”). At low volume, Freddy is mostly producing confident-looking guesses.

Email drafting is more universally useful — but it is also the area where you can paste the same context into ChatGPT or Claude in a browser tab for free. The CRM-integration value is convenience, not capability.

Marketing theatre vs daily-use

This is the part most comparison articles skip. Some Freddy features are demo-day brilliant and production-day forgotten. Some are genuinely useful every Tuesday. Here is our honest read after talking to dozens of Freshsales users:

Daily-use features (worth paying for)

  • Freshcaller built-in calling: outbound-heavy teams (insurance agents making 50+ dials a day) genuinely save 20-30 minutes a day not switching apps. Call recordings auto-attach to contacts.
  • Activity timeline auto-logging: emails, calls, and meetings show up on the contact record without anyone clicking 'log activity'. This is mature in Freshsales and most teams use it.
  • Multiple pipelines (Pro+): if you genuinely run distinct pipelines (new business vs renewals vs upsells), this is daily value.
  • Time-based workflow automation: 'if no activity in 5 days, create a task for the owner' — simple, used, valuable.

Theatre features (impressive demo, rare daily use)

  • Freddy lead scoring: requires thousands of historical conversions to be more useful than a 5-line manual rule. Most SMB teams disable it after month two because it scores everyone 'medium'.
  • Freddy deal insights / win prediction: same volume problem. A 10-person team closing 15 deals/month cannot train a meaningful model.
  • Freddy email assistant: useful, but ChatGPT in a browser tab is free and arguably better.
  • Customer journey builder (Suite): looks great on the demo. In practice, most SMBs send 2-3 templated emails and a quarterly newsletter — Mailchimp does this for less.
  • Marketing landing pages: shipped, rarely used by sales-led teams who already have a website team.
⚠️The honest test for any AI feature: would your team notice if it disappeared tomorrow? For Freshcaller, yes. For Freddy lead scoring on a 10-person team, almost never. Pay for what your team will miss if you turn it off.

Where Freshsales wins

  • Freddy AI (when you have the volume): for high-volume teams with 500+ leads/month and disciplined outcome logging, the lead scoring and email assistant produce real efficiency. Below that threshold, the value is questionable.
  • Built-in phone (Freshcaller): make and receive calls from inside the CRM, auto-record, auto-log. For outbound-heavy desks this is the killer feature.
  • Mature Freshworks ecosystem: Freshdesk, Freshchat, Freshmarketer, Freshservice all integrate natively. If you are already a Freshworks shop, the data sharing is seamless and a real reason to standardise on Freshsales.
  • Polished onboarding: Freshworks invests heavily in onboarding flows, in-app guidance, and a mature mobile app on both iOS and Android. New users get up to speed quickly.
  • Longer track record: NASDAQ-listed, 65,000+ customers, predictable roadmap. If you are pitching procurement at a larger client, the brand carries weight.
  • Workflow automation engine: time-based and event-based triggers, email sequences, bulk email — TatvaCRM does not have this yet.
  • Native mobile apps: iOS and Android. TatvaCRM is responsive web only today.

Will your team actually use it?

CRM adoption is the silent killer. The most expensive CRM in your stack is the one nobody opens after week three. So look at UI complexity honestly.

Freshsales has a beautifully designed interface — but it is a beautifully designed interface for a CRM that does ten things. Setting up multiple pipelines, configuring Freddy, mapping territories, building workflow rules, and connecting Freshcaller takes a real onboarding investment. If your admin person leaves after six months, the next person inherits a config they did not build.

TatvaCRM has fewer surfaces. There are no AI models to tune, no telephony to configure, no marketing journeys to design. You sign up, add your team, import contacts, set up a pipeline, and start tracking. For a DSA team where the founder is also the sales manager and the CRM admin, fewer surfaces is a feature.

💡A useful adoption test: can your slowest user, on a Tuesday after lunch, log a deal update without opening the help docs? On TatvaCRM, almost always yes. On Freshsales, depends on how the admin laid it out.

Switching from Freshsales to TatvaCRM

  • Export from Freshsales: from Contacts, Accounts, and Deals modules, use Freshsales' built-in CSV export. Repeat per module you want to bring over.

Skip it if: you handle under 200 leads/month, your sales process depends on relationship knowledge that Freddy cannot see (BFSI referrals, repeat-customer trust), your team will not consistently log outcomes (so the model never learns), or your AI use is mostly email drafting which a free ChatGPT tab handles.
